We live in an edge of incredible innovation. Technology allows us to access the entire world’s information from a computer that fits into our pocket. Doctors can suggest you medicine to your specific DNA. We live in an edge of unprecedented toxic chemical exposure; despite all rules and regulation we manage to create a world where we live in a constant toxic soup. Industrial and synthetic chemicals are in the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink and in those products we use each and every day. We encounter hundred of chemicals every day and some of them are known to scientists to cause a range of disease from ADD to Parkinson. There are 80,000 chemicals in use today and more than 700 are added every year without any study.

You might think government won’t allow it to be sold in market if it is not safe. But the reality is, this issue is highly political. Outside the prescribed drugs there is no single agency to universally screen all products to protect human health harms. Yes, there are laws, and laws are inadequate and it has loop holes. One such law declared 40 years before by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in US is that “62,000 chemicals are PRESUMED SAFE but with ZERO study”. In these 40 years, studies proved that some of these chemicals are highly toxic and harmful but no action has been taken. Since then EPA has only been able to ban 5 such chemicals. Recently law has been updated but only 7 chemicals are being tested in every year informed by EAP.

This is said by Amy Ziff, Founder and Executive Director, MADE SAFE.

Today’s world runs on convenience, yet it is being complicated day by day. Chemicals are everywhere; no matter whatever you try to buy, food or clothes, home décor or personal care, you need to be more cautious than ever. We find it really strange that companies add chemical in our basic necessities which come from our own earth (chemical free) and we pay them to make us sick and also we pay back to doctors and hospitals to get a recovery from ailments.

There is a continuous effort on ‘go green’ initiative but people want more. If you seek to return to natural living and if you are looking for organic and natural products safe for you and environment too then you need to change the way you perceive things. In one word you need to move towards natural lifestyle which is beyond ‘go-green’ campaign. Here we offer some basic steps to help you on your way to lead a beautiful and simplistic life in a natural manner.

clothes-in-wordrobe Step 1- Check out your clothes: Young people are today more fashion conscious than their predecessors. We recommend you to read two of our articles published recently in our blog (1) A toxic lifestyle and (2) Fast fashion is the 2nd largest polluting industry in the world.  We believe this is good enough to make you think twice while purchasing your clothes next time.

check-your-foodStep 2 – Check out your food: If you have a piece of land, convert that to your kitchen garden. However without a piece of land it is really hard to get genuine organic food. You can try some standard brands selling organic products which you can find at all supermarkets as they have created a premium segment with a premium price tag.

lifestyleStep 3 – Check out your lifestyle: Try to appreciate handmade and handicraft products; stay away from petro-chemical products; refuse to buy products if sellers are selling only by brand name. Ask for product traceability information. (Most of the seller will act as if they do not know what it is). Ask about their manufacturing and material details. We are sure that you will be surprised by their answer.

We take pride to say, we explain a product in details more than anyone else in the market. It is not always about the product quality or discounted price. As a buyer, you have rights to know who made your product under what circumstances. It is not always brand name; it is about the people who made the product, and it is about the material which has been used. It is about the process that does not harm anyone; overall it is about the effect that leaves a trail in the nature after the use and sell of the product.

  2. Nice Article, Today I agree that living better and thinking better is a very easy step just honest sincere efforts are required. Most of us understand but really do not try to care at the usage level. I myself very worried about my family as I feel and understand the effects we are getting from this “Consumption Economics”.

    1. Hi Rana, we appreciate your comment. All you have to do is to be little more careful when you buy any product from a store or online. Just Make sure you know the product well before you purchase it. If you see product specification is not good enough to let you know “how the product is made?” or “who made your products in the ground level?”, your should refrain yourself to buy that product.
